The site of the former Legal Seafoods processing facility in Allston, with an adjacent, underutilized site, provided an opportunity to rebuild and reconnect a fragmented neighborhood, returning to it a residential character that had been interrupted by small industrial uses.
Through a process of neighborhood involvement, and attention to concerns about traffic, scale, and density, Elton + Hampton Architects produced a village-like program for site development of approximately two and a quarter acres. Sixty-two units are provided in ten buildings, organized around a new access way providing visual connection through the site. The richness and diversity of neighborhood fabric is captured through the variety of building size, color, and configuration.
