Elton + Hampton Architects Principal Bruce Hampton had primary responsibility for site and architectural design on this project while employed at another firm.
Project included both site planning and architectural work for this remote, steep and wooded multi-acre site. Twenty-two Ambassadorial, agency, and staff residences, along with formal reception and guest facilities, were sited to take advantage of natural site characteristics, and to facilitate diplomatic functioning. Logistics of the inaccessible site (nearest hardware store was 150 miles away) required off-site assembly of the entire construction package. Modular construction offered a way to quickly erect an entire residential community in a setting where conventional building would have been unfeasible.
