This historic masonry building, located in Pittsfield’s urban center, was originally built as a hotel, and included several ground floor retail spaces. More recently used as small studio units, housing a primarily elderly population of limited means, the building’s occupancy rate has been poor.

Elton + Hampton Architects’ adaptive reuse and renovation, completed in two phases, enlivened the retail street front an attractive new residential entry, provided ground level support services, including areas for shared meals and social interaction, and reconfigured residential areas to create enlarged, modernized, attractive one-bedroom units.
